Here in Canada, we often find ourselves struggling with the woes of cold, dark, and stormy winter days - and colder, darker, stormier winter nights. This has not been more true than in the last week or so of winter. For those of you who are struggling - like many of us are with the heavy feeling of not seeing the sun - know that you are not alone.
Health issues are never a joke, so if you find that your struggle is deep and your burden is heavy, know that you are not alone. Find solace in both the knowledge that God is with you, and in the care of physicians and healers. There is no shame in seeking the care of those whom God has gifted with the ability to heal. Why else would God call each of us to seek such diverse working arrangements?
While some faith groups do not promote seeking medical care and encourage only the seeking of prayer and miraculous healing, we believe that it is important to use the opportunities in front of us. Think of it in terms of more mundane things, if your car is making a funny sound - and you have the means to seek out a mechanic, why would you not take advantage of the training and tools that are available to you?
There is nothing wrong with seeking God's help for a medical problem (or any other kind of problem). Just remember though, sometimes God's help is in the form of the Doctor, Mechanic, or Plumber right in front of you. Take care of yourselves this winter!
